Interims! & Room Parents? & Holiday!
9/25/2012
Things are running smoothly in our classroom as we finish up Magnetism and Electricity and move into NC history. Our personal narratives are looking good too!
Look out for an interim in your student's Tuesday folder today. This needs to be signed and returned Thursday! Remember I can be reached at 919-380-6988 or [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. Also coming home are various graded assignments, papers for pizza bingo, fall pictures, and the student directory. One more thing, I am still looking for one more room parent! I have one mom willing to be a co-room parent, so taking on this job would only be half the responsibilities once split between the two of you! ; ) Please consider; myself and the children will be forever grateful! Don't forget, tomorrow is a holiday; see you Thursday!

The Magic of a Moment
9/25/2012
Reflections is a national PTA arts competition, with winners at the school, county, state and national levels. This year's theme is "The Magic of a Moment." Students may submit entries in any (or all) of six categories:
I challenge my class to have 100% participation; any students that do submit one entry will get to have a good phone call home, have lunch in the classroom with a teacher and a friend, or Time sure is traveling fast...

First things first. Today we had amazing news. Our class was the only class on our team to hae each and every student turn in their reading and their math homework. Couple extra minutes of recess? Don't mind if we do!
In writing we are studying our mentor author Patricia Pollacco. We are finding things that Pollacco does in her writing, making notes of these things, and then applying them in our own stories. Ask your student what they are learning from Patricia Pollacco. In science, we are now learning all about circuits. Remember, you can always practice your vocabulary online! We've been practicing making our own circuits as well as making schematic diagrams of these circuits. More practice with circuits can be found here, or here! Let me know what you think of these sites. One more thing, GoPlaySave-Citipass packets went home yesterday. The money raised from this sale will help all students and teachers through PTA programs. Have your student bring any correspondence (orders, money, returned books, additional book requests, or notes) to the table in the lobby no later than Friday, September 21. Whenever the book order or unsold books are returned, the students will receive a iPads, and iron, and steel, oh my!

We started off Tuesday with a bang! Ms. Zoller came in first thing and taught the students how to use the iPads. Normally technology with Ms. Zoller is every other Monday, but due to Labor Day being this Monday, and the first day being last Monday, she came in to teach the kids today. Ask your student what they learned about the iPad today.
In science we began learning about magnets, We tested a ton of objects to see if they stuck to a magnet and we discovered that magnets are made of iron or steel. We found lots of examples of iron or steel around the classroom! Check out these cool science links. You can practice vocabulary here and you can search for magnets in the kitchen here. I want to see who is checking out my site, if you read this, leave me a secret note on my desk with your name and telling me what you like best about the site so far. : ) |
